A PENSIONER needed hospital treatment after suffering breathing problems after someone had lit a firework and put it through his letterbox in Hinton St George.
The Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service was mobilised in the early hours of Monday morning to the incident at Brettingham Court.
Officers from Crewkerne, Ilminster and Martock were all sent along with a water carrier from Yeovil.
A spokesman said: “Crews found that the firework had been put through the letterbox and had exploded on the stairway causing a lot of smoke.
“The fire was out on arrival, but the 70-year-old male occupant was given oxygen therapy and conveyed to hospital because he had inhaled some smoke.”
Police are now appealing for anyone with information about the incident to come forward on 0845-4567000 or Crimestoppers on 0800-555111.
