BURNHAM'S iconic St Andrew's Church hall is being given a new lease of life - thanks to a refurbishment grant worth £30,000.
The cash from Viridor Credits will help to renovate the kitchen, install new laminate flooring, upgrade the toilets and redecorate the building.
Repair work is already underway on the roof, which was stripped of £10,000 worth of lead by thieves in June - as reported by the Weekly News.
Churchwarden John Page applied for the grant in September and hopes the work will be finished by the end of November.
He said: “We looked for people who support local projects and Viridor came up in several areas.
“They have been really helpful and I would recommend anyone with an asset that benefits the community to contact them.
“It is a significant amount of money and it helps us greatly.
“I am thrilled to bits and I cannot believe we were successful - it's all happened extremely quickly.”
Rev Graham Witts, of St Andrew's Church, added: “The floor is becoming a major problem and the kitchen was put in about 30 years ago and doesn't meet the right standards so we are absolutely bowled over to have this grant.”
