A day-long visit by a reviewer has resulted in an excellent write-up for Truro High School in the Good Schools Guide.

Former school principal and educational consultant Godfrey Bishop paid his visit in mid September, meeting staff, pupils and parents as part of his detailed assessment. He produced two reports – one on the prep school which he described as having a “nurturing atmosphere, caring and communicative staff who produce great results” and one on the senior school.

In his summary, Mr Bishop said: “Flying the flag for girls’ education in Cornwall. Look beyond the exterior for a Cornish treasure that performs beyond expectations.

“Under its inspiring head looks set to raise its game across the board. ‘Small, family school with lovely relationships,’ say parents. A ‘must visit’ for those seeking an academically challenging yet emotionally nurturing environment for their daughters.”

He added that the teachers were committed to getting the best out of every pupil and there was also praise for the school’s extra-curricular activities.

Head teacher Caroline Pasco said: “I never cease to be amazed by all that the pupils achieve and by the dedication and commitment of our excellent staff.

“The girls here really are given every opportunity to fulfil their potential – not just in terms of exam results but in art, music, drama, sport and other leisure activities too. I am very proud that our students leave us as mature, confident young adults who have all the qualifications and emotional attributes they need to do well on whatever future career path they take.

“The guide’s report reflects our own assessment of Truro High’s strengths and is testament to the hard work and efforts that everyone involved puts into making this such an outstanding school.”
