LEWESTON School at Sherborne is celebrating another year of excellent results for its Sixth-Form leavers.

Students achieved a 100% pass rate in both A Level and Cambridge Pre-U subjects. 71% of the examinations were passed at the new A*, A or B grade or equivalent, with 42% at A* or A.

Average UCAS points per candidate were an impressive 386, the equivalent of over three A grades per candidate.

Exceptional results were achieved by student Natalia Wroblewska, who achieved six A* grades in her A Levels and a Distinction in Advanced Extension Award in Mathematics. She will go on to study Medicine at Trinity College, Cambridge.

The first set of Cambridge Pre-U results were very pleasing. Leweston was one of the first schools in the region to adopt this new and increasingly popular qualification in certain subjects when it was launched 2 years ago and the first set of results exceeded expectations across the ability range.

The Cambridge Pre-U has been developed in conjunction with the leading universities to enhance candidates’ university applications and will be especially welcome at this time when there is extra pressure to gain entrance into university.

These results have enabled almost all Leweston’s leavers to win places at their first choice universities or specialist colleges. Many students will be going on to the more selective institutions including Cambridge, Bristol, Birmingham, Cardiff, Exeter, Manchester, Loughborough and London to study the sciences and arts.

Headmaster Adrian Aylward said: “These results not only pay testament to the hard work of the students, but also the work ethic of the school, especially in the Sixth Form. These students should be justifiably proud of their achievements.

“ I am delighted that almost all of our leavers have achieved their first choice places. I am particularly pleased with our first set of Cambridge Pre-U results and look forward to continuing to offer this exciting qualification as an option in our Sixth Form.

“ It allows students to develop into a subject over the two years and demonstrate their true flair and ability.”

There will be an opportunity for parents and students to find out more about Sixth Form Study at Leweston, at the forthcoming open afternoon on Friday, October 8, at 3.45pm. Please contact the Registrar on 01963-211010 or e-mail admissions@leweston.dorset.sch.uk for more information.
