A CONTROVERSIAL music event in Highbridge WILL now go ahead after the organisers successfully fought a council decision to refuse it on noise grounds.
The Weekly News reported earlier this month how Sedgemoor District Council's licensing panel had refused permission for a two-day event featuring tributes to ABBA and The Bee Gees at the Oak Tree Arena on August 28 and 29.
However, at a hearing at Sedgemoor Magistrates' Court on Monday, organisers OTA Promotions were granted a licence.
The council had already withdrawn its objections after all but one of the people living near the Oak Tree Arena who had originally objected, withdrew their protests or did not maintain them when the case went to court.
A council spokesman also said its environmental services officials had been present when the company held a sound check at the grounds, where sound levels were deemed acceptable.
Mark Saunders, managing director of OTA Promotions, said his organisation had worked hard to strike a balance between putting on a popular event and protecting people from “unreasonable noise”.
