Minehead and Exmoor Festival

THE Minehead and Exmoor Festival returns this weekend with a feast of classical orchestral music.

Since 1963, the festival has put on three major concert programmes, performed by up to 60 orchestral musicians and internationally renowned solo performers.

The festival begins with Festival Praise at 6pm on Sunday at the Minehead Methodist Church, followed at 6.30pm by the traditional Young Artist recital given by 17-year old Abi Owen on her viola.

The Dvorak, Haydn and Beethoven programme will take place at St George's Church Dunster on July 26 and at All Saint's Church, Dulverton on July 27.

On July 29, The Regal Theatre will host string players Corina Belcea-Fisher on the violin and Pierrre Doumenge on the cello performing Brahm's Double Concerto.

The finale on July 31 will be at the Regal Theatre with Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition, Resphigi's The Birds and Prokofiev's first piano concerto with rising young star Richard Powell.
