TWO intrepid teams from The West Somerset Community College in Minehead have taken part in the 50th anniversary of the Ten Tors Challenge.

The groups, a 35 and 45-mile team, joined 2,400 students as they set off across Dartmoor.

The 35-mile pupils - Edward Webber, Charlie Tudball, Ciaran Barker, Ben Howes, Brett Smith and Sam Price - made great progress, achieving their seventh Tor by nightfall on the first day. But due to illness and injury they failed to complete the second day.

The 45-mile team walked until 10.30pm on Saturday before setting up camp at their sixth Tor. One member dropped out with an eye injury but the rest of the team - Alex Howes, Donna Hooper, Jason Burt, Kieran Boulton and Alicia Hockin - carried on for a second day, arriving at the finish at Okehampton camp 25 hours after first setting off.
