AUDIENCES will be able to get a sneak preview of Minehead Amateur Theatrical Association’s summer show, West Side Story, tonight (Friday).

The West End hit, with music by Leonard Bernstein and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, will be performed at The Regal Theatre in Minehead in August.

But the MATA cast, most of whom are present or past West Somerset Community College pupils, will be performing three numbers from the show in Friday Night is College Music Night at the Regal.

Sarah-Jane Cross directs the show alongside musical director Paul Doolan.

Promoter Hilary May said: “Sarah-Jane has assembled a talented young cast and one of her first tasks was to persuade the large group of young men they could aspire to heights in dance they had not dreamed would be possible.

“One or two are already students of choreographer Lorraine Ahern but most have not had formal dance lesions. With Paul the talented musical director behind them, their dedication is paying off.”

On a musical note, Paul is still looking for talented musicians to play in the orchestra. If you play trumpet, trombone or percussion, contact him on 07767-252946 or Sarah on 01643-706467.

West Side Story opens on August 11 and runs for ten nights.

Tickets for both shows are available now from The Regal Theatre box office by calling 01643-706430.
