OUTGOING Mayor Peter Critchard handed over the chain of office to Cllr Andrew Govier at Wellington Town Council’s annual meeting on Monday.
Cllr Govier said he was “immensely proud” to be chosen as Wellington’s new Mayor and was “excited” by the challenge.
He said: “I have a lot of ideas for the town and hopefully we can make Wellington an even better place than it already is.”
Cllr Govier praised Cllr Critchard for working so hard and said he had done a “really excellent” job over the last two years.
Cllr Critchard said: “As a former coach driver, not in my wildest dreams did I think I would ever become Mayor of the town and I have thoroughly enjoyed my two years in office.
“There are many people doing a lot of good work within our town and it has been very gratifying to be a part of it all.”
