TRADERS in Chard are on tenterhooks hoping ill-fates plans for closed circuit television in the town are about to be revived by a cut price deal.
Members of Chard Chamber of Commerce heard at a meeting last week that South Somerset District Council is investigating a way of sharing a £75,000 Government grant awarded to Crewkerne.
Business owners and civic leaders in Chard were deflated last March when their bid for a surveillance system was turned down. Both Chard and Crewkerne had applied for cash from the Home Office but only Crewkerne was successful.
Since then, Madisons nightclub in Crewkerne, blamed for much of the town's late night problems, has closed and is not to reopen.
The savings on a scheme in Crewkerne could then be passed on to fund a scheme in Chard, if the Home Office approved.
