THE streets of Yeovil and surrounding area will be virtually deserted tomorrow (Friday) morning as World Cup fever reaches boiling point with England's mouth-watering Quarter-Final clash with the Samba boys of Brazil.

And it is the English supporters who hope to be dancing in the streets come the end of the match and with it a place in the Semi-Finals of the competition for the first time since 1990.

Instead of the usual morning rush hour traffic the roads will be relatively quiet as football supporters settle down to watch the eagerly-awaited encounter between two of the teams tipped to go all the way and win the World Cup Final on June 30.

The 7.30am kick-off means that many workers will take time off of work to watch the game, while pupils at some schools have been told that they can arrive for lessons after the final whistle.

Once again pubs and clubs in the area will be busy with football fans descending on them to watch the big match on giant screens and to tuck into a fried breakfast.

The landlord of the Beehive pub in Huish, Yeovil, Mark Grose, said: "It should be a great match, a great atmosphere and I am confident England will win. England's continued involvement in the World Cup is great for the economy and I really do believe that we will go all the way and win the final."

Many households are still in the Jubilee spirit as England's World Cup adventure continues and there are Union and St George's flags draped from windows.

Shops and stores have one football crazy with staff dressed in suitable England colours, while football merchandise has been selling fast with shirts and flags top of fans' shopping list.

Stylists at Perfections Hair Salon in Highfield Road, Yeovil, have been flying the flag for England as the World Cup reaches its most intriguing stage.

Proprietor Carol Smith said: "We do tend to go a bit football crazy here - but the World Cup only comes around every four years. It's going to be a tough match for England and it will all be about who plays the best on the day. But I'm sure England can do it!"
