Thousands of homes in the Helston area experienced power fluctuations on Monday night, June 17, following a power cut which left Truro and the surrounding area completely blacked out.
The problems arose after an insulator damaged by a previous lightning strike failed shortly before 9pm, plunging almost 30,000 homes into darkness.
Properties in the Helston and Lizard area suffered only momentary losses of power.
At Goonhilly satellite earth station, engineers were called in as the station's back-up generators swung into action.
Fire crews were kept busy as hundreds of automatic fire alarms activated across mid and west Cornwall.
Helston personnel were called out to provide back-up following a number of alerts in the Redruth area.
A spokeswoman for Western Power said a total of 28,973 properties had been affected by the power failure, which lasted for around 40 minutes.
