YEOVIL Town manager Gary Johnson has welcomed the introduction of a play-off system next season to determine which club will be promoted to the Football League along with the Nationwide Conference champions.

"Most teams will believe that they will have something to play for at Christmas and those clubs going for promotion - which could be half of them - may well see their gates doubled which is just what the Conference needs," he said.

"It is a major step in the right direction, although my chairman John Fry would like to see three up, three down to bring the Conference in line with the others."

But Johnson said it was 'full credit' to the Conference for achieving the goal of an extra promotion spot and congratulated Conference chief executive John Moules for 'staying strong' in the arguments for and against the proposal.
