A LITTLE girl from Mount Hawke, near Truro, who had two landmark operations to transplant her toes to her arms is now able to write with one hand.

Four-year-old Christy Grose was born without fingers or hands, and her right leg ended just below the knee with two protruding toes.

Until this month, she could only pick up objects her arms.

Her mum, Michelle Grose, said on Monday: "It's been amazing. She's really come on. It's taken a lot of settling in but now she can write with one hand, although it takes a lot of effort and she can't do it for long periods of time."

The first operation went well, but she was still unable to move the hand freely. So, in March, she had further surgery on her fingers, and a second operation to have a toe from her left foot attached to her right hand.

Michelle Mallaber, nursery manager of Flying Start nursery, in Redruth, where Christy attends, said she was a "remarkable little girl."

Christy's parents have set up a trust to cover costs. Anyone who would like to make a donation to the trust should contact Michelle or Julian Grose on 01209 890372.
