JONATHAN Burnett, the principal Truro College, was awarded an Order of the British Empire in the Queen's birthday honours.
Mr Burnett said it was a "tremendous pleasure", to receive the honour, though it had come as a surprise.
He said it recognised the achievements of the college over the last ten years, for which all the staff were responsible.
"It reflects the hard work of everybody at the college. We have all worked hard but all worked together."
Under Mr Burnett's guidance the college has recently been awarded Beacon status, marking it out as one of the best in the country.
Among other peoplewho received honours werea Member of the British Empire (MBE) honours for John Francis Best, executive officer for the Benefits Agency in St Austell. A similar accolade went toMrs Lauraine Frederica Sadleir, Ministry of Defence, St Austell, and Mrs Susan Ruth Skelton, for services for the community in St Austell.
