Pre-prep pupils at Polwhele House School, Truro, concluded their summer concert with a surprise grand finale in honour of their headmistress, Mrs Rosemary White, who will be stepping down at the end of term.
They sang a selection of songs performed by her pupils during her 26 years in charge, including one of the very first and an all-time favourite, Daisies Are Our Silver.
The concert was organised by teacher Mrs Linda Caddy and included poetry and dancing - with one dance reflecting the kind performed in the era of Queen Elizabeth I, a subject of recent study by the pupils.
All boys and girls in the pre-prep school took part in the event. They were accompanied by Year twopupils who have been learning to play the recorder and violin.
Mrs White and her husband Richard, head of the prep school, are now planning their retirement.A new head teacher will take over in September, but the Whites will remain as principals while a trust is set up to govern the school. Its roots go back to Boscawen Rose School, which Mrs White founded in 1976.The couple have run Polwhele House School for the past 21 years.
