ST Day Rugby Football Club met for their annual dinner at the Crossroads Hotel, Scorrier, with guest speaker, Mr David Driver from the Cornwall Referees' Society.

Mr Driver presented the Cornwall League II winner's shield to club captain, Matthew Downing.

Mr Mike Downing, club president, thanked all players and committee for their success in helping to win the league and gaiin promotion. He said the playing figures for the season were - played 34 games; won 25; lost 9; points for 999; points against, 480.

He gave special thanks to all the club's sponsors for their support, without whom the club would not survive and also thanked Mr Kevin Bennetts for providing the club with new rugby shirts.

Trophies were presented by Mr Kevin Bennetts of Consol Oils.

The awards were presented to - Players' player, Mark Roby; player of the year, Matthew Downing; young player, Brett Evans; most improved player, Richard Dagnall; top points scorer, Matthew Downing; top try scorer, Kevin Pooley; training trophy, Matthew Downing; clubman of the year, Mike Downing; committee person, Steve Harris.

Club ties, 50 games: Karl Bone, Simon James; club badges 75 games: Karl Bone, Richard Dagnall; club ties 100 games: Kevin Pooley, Lawley Whitehead, Jamie Bills, Scott Trevithick, Darren Lawry, Mark Dunstan, Damian George, Paul Richards; club ties, 200 games: Mike Lawry; club ties, 300 games: Clive Richards, Matthew Downing, Mike Downing.

Dot and Eddy Bowden of Trophy Textiles presented all players with Cornwall League II winner's squad tee-shirts.

St Day RFC presented all the players and committee with winning club ties.

Flowers were presented by club captain Matthew Downing to Mrs Driver, Mrs Bennetts, Mrs Jackie Evans and Mrs Daphne Richards;

St Day RFC's annual meeting wil be held at St Day Inn, on Tuesday, July 2 at 7.30pm. New players are welcome.
