Chard'S winning run came to an emphatic end on Saturday (June 22) when they went down by 89 runs to Glastonbury in the Bristol and Somerset Division of the West of England Cricket League.
When Chard's skipper Andy Bond won the toss and asked the title favourites Glastonbury to bat, their bowlers struggled to make an impact. In fact, the opening stand of 100 by Wes Durston (47) and 15-year-old Richard Tims (52) set up the visitors' victory. They got to 199-7 in their allotted overs.
The Chard innings was not a good advertisement for the league's winner-takes-all policy, for Glastonbury pushed their fielders back on the fence until Chard were too far behind the clock to up the scoring rate. They slipped to 110-8 at the close.
