Hundreds got into a party mood on Saturday for the revival of the Redruth carnival, the first in ten years.

Crowds lined the streets to watch the colourful procession of floats, marching bands and people in imaginative fancy dress costumes.

Mayor of Redruth, Sue Fowler, said the organisers were worried right up until the last moment, but she was thrilled with what a success the carnival was. "It was brilliant. It's another event for the town and I hope it will be a regular thing."

Organiser Terri Bishop said she was "really delighted" with the support.

"At 6pm the streets were empty and we were all a bit worried. At 6.30pm the streets were absolutely packed. The carnival definitely brought a bit of the feel good factor back to Redruth," she said.

Street collections raised £600 which will be donated to the Minor Injuries Unit appeal.

Mrs Bishop said she wanted to thank all those that had worked hard to make the event such a success, including Speedy who donated all the barriers and road closed signs. Particular mention went to Mayor of Redruth, Sue Fowler, along with councillors Keith and Sallie Dinham, Len Pascoe and Keith Old.
