Falmouth Chamber of Commerce are still unhappy with the traffic restrictions due to be imposed in the town centre.

Despite reaching a compromise on the banning of vehicles between 11am and 4pm the chamber believes the town is not ready for it.

President of the chamber, Frank Davis, said: "This should have been left until there was more consultation so it does not affect the uplift in trade that Falmouth has worked for."

Mr Davis said the chamber supported the reduction in pollution and was wholeheartedly behind the removal of mid-day deliveries but other things should be put in place before the traffic restrictions are implemented.

"They are rushing things. There are no signs up at Ponsharden telling people which way to get to the museum or where to park for the shops."

The chamber also wants a park and ride scheme in place before cars are banned from the town centre.

Mr Davis said: "It is the organisation behind it that will make it a great success or, if you do not organise it, it will be a failure."

Enforcement of the new traffic scheme will be carried out by Falmouth's two traffic wardens and the police force, who will also be patrolling the area.

Anyone found to be in breach of the ban - which stops all vehicles using Church Street and Market Street, except for access to the Church Street car park - will be subject to a fixed penalty ticket of £30.
