THE first computerised plans for the new centre at Stithians Lake have been unveiled.

The plans show how the new project - which will include watersports adventure facilities, an activities training centre and education and environmental interpretation areas - is likely to shape up.

The state-of-the-art centre has been set up by South West Lakes Trust, and promises to be an unrivalled leisure resource for the community, as well as a conservation area.

It was launched in May by Lady Mary Holborrow, the Lord Lieutenant of Cornwall, who is a trustee.

She said at the opening: "This centre will have a dramatic effect on the economy and will be a wonderful facility."

The South West Lakes Trust manages the 274-acre lake, which last year drew 50,000 visitors to Stithians.

The new centre will incorporate sailing, windsurfing, canoeing, rowing and trout fishing from boat or bank, on Cornwall's second-largest body of inland freshwater.

It will develop educational programmes in countryside management and watersports activities in conjunction with Camborne, Pool and Redruth College and schools.

There will also be be increased sailing opportunities for disabled people in association with the Royal Yachting Association Sailability programme.

An open day, when people can meet members of the South West Lakes Trust and discuss the plans, will be held on July 23.
