A new public garden in the heart of Mullion is due to be officially opened next week.

The ceremony next Thursday is being hosted by the Mullion in Bloom Association, which won the contract to maintain the garden and has carried out various improvements over recent months.

Created as part of a wider regeneration of the Churchtown area, the garden will be declared open by Mullion resident Nick Meyer, who made a generous donation to the project.

Parish and county councillors, as well as all those connected with the construction of the garden, are being invited to attend.

The opening ceremony will be followed by the traditional Mullion in Bloom garden party, due to be held in the newly landscaped Tremenhee car park.

During the party, former association chairman Vic Rogers will present prizes to the winners of the annual garden competition, following two days of inspections by the judges.

Entertainment will be provided by popular folk group Splinter and the catering will be handled by Lizard 2000.

Mullion in Bloom spokeswoman Pam Dowall said the association would be offering wine and soft drinks and anyone wishing to bring a bottle to add to the supplies would be much appreciated.

The Garden Club's monthly meeting takes place tonight, at 7.30pm in the WI hall, featuring a presentation entitled "Roses for Cornwall" by Vicki Marshall from Godolphin House Nursery. Refreshments are included in the £1 entrance fee for non-members and all are welcome to attend.
