Falmouth completed a tough weekend on Sunday with a resounding 84 run home win over Menheniot to remain on track for a high finish in the Premiership after a successful 32 point haul over the double weekend.

Skipper Larry Martin reflected afterwards on the improvement this year being helped with a squad of 14 or 15 first XI players to call on.

The point was proved on Sunday with Duncan Ayres, Sean Turner and Richard Full coming in for Sean Hooper, George Popperwell and Krishnan Subramanian who were on duty at Callington the previous day.

In good weatheR, for once, Falmouth's innings was similar to the previous day's when Larry Martin was first to go at 41 caught and bowled by Gary Isbell for 10. Steve Williams was again in good form and shared a 71 stand with Duncan Ayres for the second wicket. Ayres was stumped by Andy Keeble for 38.

Williams reached his 50 to complete a great weekend before falling to Stuart Taylor.

Useful knocks down the order from Marek Churcher, Sean Turner, Mark Burley, Greg Stephens and Paul Goodwin, who all got into double figures, saw 215-8 reached in 60 overs. Taylor took 3-61 and Hugh Rogers 2-59.

The Menheniot innings was based on opener Danny Lee who made 53. They were hampered without the sevices of Simon Hunt and Dave Herbert, though, and a mid-order collapse which saw them move from 92-3 to 100-8 virtually ended their hopes of gaining much from the game.

Dave Toseland was again in good form soon getting rid of Hugh Rogers when he came on. He ended with 3-31 off 13 overs. Menheniot started the last hour on 93-4, but it was Greg Stephens who really turned the screw. His left arm spin from the pavilion end accounted for Lee and Gary Isbell to open up the lower order. Stephens ended with 4-21 off nine overs, a great effort.

The visitors' last pair were left ten overs to survive. They almost got to halfway when Sean Turner replaced Toseland at the road end and Stephens held the catch to seal another good win.

Callington visit Trescobeas on Saturday in what should be a good encounter.
