The well supported full programme of events led to a very successful Golf Festival Week at Mullion.

On Monday, men's and ladies' pairs played in a Greensome Stableford Competition and club captain John Rosevear and his partner Greg Curnow came out on top with 42 points. Junior captain, Nicola Sobey and her partner, ladies' vice captain, Sharon Moyle, were runners-up with 39 points, beating Peter Risley and Steve Crouch, Rebecca Gush and Julia Russell and the Tehidy pairing of Mike Babbs and Brian Davis on countback.

The husband and wife team of David and Sue Johns won the open mixed Better Ball competition on Tuesday when they returned 43 points. Runners-up were Casey Adams and Jeannie White, also with 43 points and they, in turn, pipped Terry and Nicola Sobey on countback. John Rosevear and Julie Wilson returned 39 points followed by Richard and Rebecca Pascoe with 37 points. The Best Visitor went to Peter Rendell and Wendy Inch from West Cornwall with 36 points.

It was the turn of the senior section on Wednesday when there was keen competition for the Dennis Bray Trophy. The winner was local player John Oliver with 40 points, followed by Keith Smith with 38 points and J Clisby with 36 points. D Harris of West Cornwall was fourth with 35 points, pipping his club mate, G Parker, on countback.

The best Mullion prize was awarded to Nigel Hannaford with 34 points and D Mallock of Truro received the Best Visitor Award with 34 points.

In the open team event of Thursday, local ladies Rebecca Gush, Margaret Hosking, Elaine McCorkill and Maggie Clynick returned a Two Better Ball Medal Scores total of 125 to beat the Budock Vean team of Jamie O'Hara, Tony Ramsden, C Parsons and K Rashleigh by one shot. In third place was Dale Wilson, Roger Gilks, D Dunstan and R McCall on 127, followed by Peter Olvier, George Davis, Brian Shore and Patrick Gilbert on 128. Fifth place went to N Haskell, James Hale, Graham Stillwell and Simon Kersley with 129.

It was Ladies' Day on Friday when the Falmouth pair of Kathy Wells and Jane Wooldridge won the Better Ball Stableford competition with 40 points. Rosie Ellison and Ann Nash came second with 37 points, followed by Rebecca Gush and Elizabeth Bird on 36 points. They, in turn, pipped Di Dingle and R Lunny on countback.

The Front Nine prize went to Pam Schofield and Jeannie White with 20 points and Sharon Moyle and Margaret Hosking won the Back Nine with 21 points. In the afternoon foursomes event, Kate Foxton and Marion Neale from Mullion won with 17 points, pipping Kathy Wells and Jane Wooldridge and Rebecca Gush and Elizabeth Bird on countback.

On Saturday, the men competed in an individual Stableford competition. Visitor Ian Jones came out on top with 41 points, followed by local players, James Coventry with 40 points, Colin Hawksworth with 38 points, Tony Bayliss with 38 points, Hugh Phillips with 37 points, John Rosevear 37 points, Simon Lewis 36 points and Simon Thomas with 36 points. The best junior was Leo Acklin with 35 points. The Captain's Prize was awarded to Rocky Letford.

The week ended on Sunday with a Texas Scramble format for teams of four. Neil Perry, Peter Oliver, Graham Stillwell and Patrick Gilbert were first with 55.1 followed by Paul Hull, Beau Meagor, George Torrance and Ryan Retallack on 55.5. Third place went to George Davis, Rik Lydall, Mike Pamphilon and Noel Murphy with 56.4 and fourth place went to Richard Williams, Tommy Edwards, Henry Bennett and Ben Willey on 57.3.
