The highest tides for several years will occur early next week when the predicted tidal height is expected to be 5.8 metres above chart datum on Monday and Tuesday evening.
If weather conditions remain fairly stable with little wind there should be few problems. However, a strong onshore wind from a southerly or south-easterly direction coupled with a low pressure system will increase tidal heights, giving rise to localised flooding in vulnerable areas along the south coast.
The water normally laps around the quayside at North Quay, Falmouth, with Flushing in particular likely to suffer from an abnormally high tide.
