KEYNSHAM 6pts

TRURO 11pts

TRURO produced a determined performance away to Keynsham to pull off a hard-earned win and secure their second league victory in three outings.

The home side have not made the best of starts, but after just a couple of games league positions can be fairly misleading. However, Truro have made a much better start to this campaign then when they were last in South West One.

With Truro's side beginning to bed in, their teamwork is beginning to prove a real asset and so it needed to be as the home side took the lead.

Playing with a strong wind behind them Keynsham played the percentages and opted for points on the board with a couple of penalties from Williams.

Truro had their share of possession - and penalties - but the kicks didn't go quite as planned with a couple being missed before Jamie Caruana finally found his kicking boots to reduce the arrears.

The visitors suffered another early blow when James Allen had to leave the field after sustaining an eye injury - Simon Griffiths coming on as his replacement and making an impact in the loose play.

At half-back 18-year-old Dan Pollard showed plenty of character and nous in his partnership with scrum-half Peter Craven to ensure the city club remained a tightly-knit unit.

Truro's pack began to win their fair share of ball with second row Nick Yelland a real force and their pressure finally paid off when full-back Matt Trevail joined the attack to go over for a try. Caruana was unable to add the extra points from the conversion.

The hard ground and windy conditions made it difficult for both sides to execute running moves, but after a spell of untidy play Truro tightened their grip on the game when Caruana landed a vital penalty goal.

Keynsham were always in with a chance of snatching something out of nothing, but Truro's defence held firm to collect two well-earned points.

On Saturday Truro are home to a Reading side who beat the city club just a few weeks ago.
