TRURO CITY 2

LUDGVAN 2

TRURO City salvaged a point from their Jolly's Combination League clash with Ludgvan at Treyew Road, but they will reflect on the fact that they should have taken all three.

For 20 minutes the game trundled along in an uneventful manner, but from thereon there was no shortage of talking points.

City had the better of the exchanges in the first 25 minutes, but after 28 minutes City appeared to be on their way to victory when they took the lead. Chris Phillips played the ball into the box where Tom Randall collected the pass and turned to hit a shot into the corner of the net.

Five minutes before the break City suffered a blow when Mike Cain and Matt Baxter had a clash of heads which resulted in a visit to hospital for treatment for Cain.

Ludgvan made a bright start to the second half and put City under pressure. After 52 minutes it paid off when Nicky Male levelled the scores and minutes later City were fortunate to survive when Ludgvan had a goal disallowed.

It got worse for City when they had Pete Davey sent off after he pulled back Danny Rendle and with 20 minutes to go the visitors snatched the lead when City failed to clear a corner sufficiently to allow Justin Stephens to beat Holland with a shot into the corner.

City brought on Kevin Mills and Adam Barnicoat in a bid to liven things up and within minutes looked a different side as Barnicoat just failed to get a touch to Mills' cross.

Nine minutes from time City deservedly equalised when Trevaskis crossed into the box where Luke Wort controlled the ball and turned to shoot into the corner of the net.

City had late chances to snatch the points with Mike Hill and Wort narrowly missing the target when well placed, but had to settle for the draw.

Joint manager Gary Pascoe said given the circumstances he was happy with the point. "Ludgvan didn't play like a side who are at the bottom of the table. They battled hard and always looked dangerous on the break, but I thought we did really well after we had Pete Davey sent off. In fact, with a bit of luck we could have won it in the closing stages."

On Saturday City are away to Penzance.
