A council service has proved so popular during its pilot phase that Kerrier has decided to continue it indefinitely, starting from Satur-day.

The One-Stop Recycl-ing Scheme was introduced in April 2002 - initially on a six month basis - to provide a recycling service in some parts of the Kerrier district not currently covered by the council's "Blue Box" collection scheme.

The service involves a recycling vehicle (supplied by Cornwall Paper Company) visiting a series of pre-determined locations in villages across Kerrier at specific times on alternate Saturdays.

During its trial period, the One-Stop Recycling Scheme proved to be an extremely popular service with local residents, collecting an average of 11 tonnes of material per month. As well as enabling the council to collect recyclable material from a larger number of households across the district, it also enabled residents to recycle a wider range of material than that collected by the Blue Box scheme, including paper, cardboard, cans, aluminium foil, plastic bottles, glass and textiles.

Villages included in the revised One-Stop Recycl-ing Scheme - which kicks off this Saturday - include Cury, The Lizard, Cadgwith, Ruan Minor, Coverack, Newtown, Manaccan, St Martin and Mawgan

The following week it will be Townshend, Godolphin, Carleen, Sith-ney, Helston (Bul-wark/Albion Road), Lowertown, Trewen-nack, Longdowns and North Country.

A further enhancement is the introduction, on a trial basis, of glass collection to the Blue Box Scheme. Glass is being collected in Carharrack, St Day, Mawnan Smith, Constantine, Lamanva and Treverva.
