The new series of special exhibitions being held in Cornwall this month should help people make informed decisions about their future.

Education and the world of work are changing constantly and it is essential that everyone continues learning through their lives.

It can be done through full-time education, part time courses or training in the workplace. The facilities are now endless.

It is equally important that younger people choose a career suitable to them.

Connexions Cornwall and Devon is working with Packet Newspapers and other partners to organise the What Now Conventions in Cornwall as just one of the ways of working with schools and colleges, youth and training agencies and many community organisations to help young people in particular, to get the information they need to find work, education courses or training opportunities.

The conventions in Cornwall take place at Camborne Pool Redruth College on October 17 and at Fowey Community College on October 24. Another is taking place at Duchy College, Stoke Climsland, Devon on October 10.

Connexions was set up by the Government to impact on the lives of young people. Those from 13 years of age to 19 have access to a personal adviser who listens, gives advice, information, support and practical help on lots of topics, from careers to relationships through to school and home problems.

But the What Now conventions also encourage adults to get independent advice and information on education and training so everybody is prepared for the changing world of work.

"We want to use every opportunity to help people understand what jobs, education and training are available and also what help we can give," said Jenny Rudge, Connexions Cornwall and Devon.

At the Camborne Pool Redruth College a number of companies, agencies and colleges will be taking part.

They include the County Youth Service, Cornwall College, Falmouth College of Art, along with companies such as those involved in finance, hotel and catering industry, transport, travel, retail, brewing and maritime.
