Activists of Mebyon Kernow descended on Redruth on Saturday for the party's annual general meeting and policy conference.

The conference was launched with a minute's silence to remember two staunch Mebyon Kernow members who had died during the last 12 months, Ron Williams from Falmouth, and Ron Greet who formerly lived at Camborne.

Coun Dick Cole, recently re-elected as party leader gave the keynote address. In a wideranging speech, he paid tribute to the work of activists within the party over the last year.

He praised the work of Phil Rendle, Helene Ranson and Audrey Metcalfe who had all been elected as official MK candidates throughout the year at Penzance, Camborne and Carn Brea, respectively. He also congratulated party members and others throughout Cornwall for the hard work in response to the Government's White Paper, showing that Cornwall clearly wants devolution in its own right.

Executives elected at conference: Dick Cole (Fraddon) party leader; Barry Andrew (Truro) deputy leader; Conan Jenkin (Truro) communications officer; Roy Schama (Philleigh) treasurer; Verity Crocker (Truro) health, welfare and social services; Hilda Wasley (Threemilestone) community services; Phil Rendle (Threemilestone) economy; Patricia Schama (Philleigh) environment; Martyn Sanders (Camborne) transport, planning and housing; Stuart Cullimore (Camborne) rural affairs; Carol Mann (Perranporth) culture, sport and media; Andy Moyle (St Just) constitutional affairs; Risiart Tal-e-bot (Truro) external relations.
