THREE members of the Somerset County Council's Social Services team are putting their best feet forward to raise money for their unit by running the Taunton Half Marathon.

Cath Salter, Karen Shaun and Wendy Jones are part of the dedicated staff team at Oak Bungalow, Taunton, which provides short breaks provision for adults with a learning disability in Taunton.

What started off as a bit of a joke has turned into an opportunity to get fit as well as raise money for their unit.

The three ladies have been training since Christmas, with Karen, an already established runner, giving lots of advice.

Any money raised will be put towards purchasing sensory equipment which will be used to create a stimulating environment for some of the more profound service users.

Wendy Jones said: "Somerset's Learning Disability Service is among the best in the country and we are extremely proud of what we do.

"The training has been really hard work - we've got the aches and the blisters to prove it! But knowing the impact the new equipment will have for our service users makes it worthwhile."

Anyone wishing to support is asked to contact Cath, Karen or Wendy on 01823-327715.
