Ingrid saddles up for Shelterbox

FORMER Holyrood Community School, Chard, student Ingrid Criddle is facing the challenge of a lifetime as she gears up to cycle across Europe to Istanbul.

Ingrid, 23, a graduate from the University of Leeds, will be hopping on her loaded bike to cycle more than 3,000 miles to raise money for charity.

The cyclist will leave her home near Ilminster on Monday, March 15, and embark on an adventure that will take her across nine countries – France, Germany, Austria, Slovakia, Hungary, Croatia, Serbia, Romania and Bulgaria – before she completes the last leg to Istanbul in Turkey.

Her journey will take her through a host of terrains, scenes and cultures.

“I’m on a tight budget and will be carrying all of my equipment as I will be camping my way across Europe,” she said.

“I haven’t ever come close to cycling such a distance before but I am looking forward to the challenge, adventure and ultimately the reward of completing the journey.”

The hard work and saddle soreness will be all worth it for Ingrid, as she will be raising funds for the international disaster relief charity Shelterbox.

“Shelterbox is an amazing charity that provides boxes of aid containing the basic requirements of shelter, warmth and self-sufficiency,” she said.

“The boxes are deployed in emergency situations, natural disasters and conflict.”

Ingrid would like to thank Kings Cycles, of Station Road, Taunton, which has been extremely helpful with advice, kit and well-needed bike maintenance tips.
