Taunton’S dedicated cancer treatment centre, the Beacon Centre, was officially opened by the Duke of Gloucester today.

He was joined by local dignitaries, staff and fundraisers from the County Gazette backed SURE, Somerset Unit for Radiotherapy Equipment, campaign.

The Duke toured the facilities and made a speech before unveiling a plaque declaring the centre officially open. His Royal Highness said: “I congratulate all those who played a part in the creation of the Beacon Centre, and wish the best of luck to those who work here, and who come as worried patients and leave relieved with much better prospects.” Taunton & Somerset NHS Trust chairman Ros Wyke, said: “I’m delighted the Duke of Gloucester could join us today. “It’s a great achievement for the trust.”
