A WINE expert from Brent Knoll celebrated in style after being crowned UK Sommelier of the Year for 2009 with a trip to Reims – the capital of the Champagne region.
Laura Rhys, 28, is head sommelier, a trained wine waitress, at Gerard Basset’s Hotel Terravina in the New Forest.
She was awarded the coveted prize at London’s Tate Modern after beating other renowned sommeliers from across the country.
Laura, who grew up in Brent Knoll, won a first-class trip to France where she was VIP guest of top winemaker Régis Camus at a prestigious restaurant.
She said: “The competition is the perfect platform for sommeliers in Britain, allowing them to push themselves to improve both their knowledge and tasting skills while serving as an inspiration to the industry as a whole.”
