A WELLINGTON pub will next week host a fundraising auction with t-shirts signed by Eric Clapton and Eric Cantona the star attractions.
The auction, at The Sportsman Arms, has been organised by local couple Nigel Holroyd and Emma Ostler to raise money for Cancer Research UK.
Nigel's grandfather generously agreed to give his Eric Clapton-signed t-shirt to his grandson to be auctioned off as one of the event's main attractions.
The t-shirt signed by Cantona came from local Cancer Research UK fundraiser Dawn Harrison, who got him to sign it when he took part in a beach football tournament at Minehead last year in support of the charity.
Nigel, from Rockwell Green, said he was hoping to raise between £1,000 and £1,500 through the event.
"I wanted to do an auction because I know they raise a lot of money," he said.
Other items up for grabs include a t-shirt signed by professional poker player Neil 'The Bad Beat' Channing and a silver necklace handmade by Emma.
Also taking place on the night will be a poker tournament and a raffle, with prizes including hair treatments, chocolates and bingo vouchers donated by businesses in Taunton.
Nigel said: "Poker is one of my favourite hobbies. I used to play weekly and I wanted to do some good with it so I went to Cancer Research."
Dawn Harrison, Cancer Research UK community fundraiser, said: "One in three people develop cancer at some point in their lives and that's why we are very grateful to people like, Nigel, Emma, Lisa and Tony for organising what looks to be an evening of competition and fun.
"Please come along to the Sportsman on the 10th and help them make this a truly successful event."
The evening will be held on Wednesday, February 10, at 7pm, with guests asked to pay a donation of £5 on the door.
Cancer Research UK is dedicated to beating cancer through research into its diagnosis, treatment and prevention. For more information on the charity, click on the Related Link, below.
