Don and June celebrate 60 years of marriage


ILMINSTER couple Don and June Lewis of Blackdown View are celebrating their diamond wedding this week with a family party.

They were married at Chard Registry Office and have always lived in the Chard and Ilminster area.

Don, who was born in Chard, worked as a bus conductor on Western and Southern National Buses, followed by Anthony Allen’s Engineering at Chard, Wooley and Sons builders in Ilmisnter and for Powrmatic before retiring.

June was born in Ilminster and worked at the former Standard Telephones and Cables factory in Dowlish Ford, Day Foley in Ilminster and later as a home help.

The couple have three children, six grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

Don was a wartime member of the Chard Air Training Corps and was later conscripted into the army before becoming a member of the Parachute Regiment.
