LEST We Forget Yeovil’s fallen war heroes.

ABBOTT, Walter John: Died on November 3, 1916, while serving with as a Private with the Marine Light Infantry. He was killed after being run over by a railway train in the Rue Colmar Railway Station in Suez. He lived in Queen Street, Yeovil, with his five and five children. He was interred in the Suez War Memorial Cemetery.

ADAMS, David Henry: Died on August 30, 1917, was killed in action in France while serving as a Private with the 2nd Battalion of the Wiltshire Regiment. Before joining the Army he was employed in the creamery department of Yeovil store Aplin & Barrett. His wife died the previous year and two children were left as orphans.

ADAMS, Walter Horace: Died on June 5, 1916, aged just 17 while serving as a Private with the Royal Marine Light Infantry. He drowned in the sinking of HMS Hampshire off the Orkneys. He was buried in the Naval Cemetery at Lyness, Orkneys.

ALDWORTH, Edwin Percival: Died on April 8, 1918, aged just 21, while in action in France serving as a Private with the 2nd Battalion of the Coldstream Guards. He was the son of Mr and Mrs Aldworth, of Lyde Road, Yeovil, and was interred in the Bucquoy Road Cemetery, Ficheux.

ALLEN, Walter William: Died on September 16, 1916, while serving as a Private with the 6th Battalion of the Somerset Light Infantry in France. He and his wife lived in Eastland Road, Yeovil.

ANDREW, Richard Ewart: Died on August 11, 1917, aged just 19 while serving as a Private with the 8th Battalion of the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers in France. His parents lived at Goldcroft, Yeovil.

ARNOLD, Douglas: Died on May 3, 1917, aged just 20 while serving as a Private with the 1st Battalion of the Somerset Light Infantry in France. His parents lived at Goldcroft, Yeovil.

AXE, William James: Died on August 19, 1916, aged just 20 while serving as a Private with the 1st Battalion of the Somerset Light Infantry. He was killed by shell fire and his body was interred in the Authille Military Cemetery. His parents lived in Orchard Street, Yeovil.

BAILEY, Frank: Died on August 2, 1917, from wounds sustained in action while serving as a Private with the 3rd Battalion of the Grenadier Guards. His mother lived at Sparrow Road, Yeovil.

BAILEY, Lionel John: Died on April 11, 1918, aged just 24 while serving as a Private with the 2nd Battalion of the Coldstream Guards. His body was interred in Etaples Military Cemetery. He was the son of Mr and Mrs William Bailey, of Yeovil, and the husband of Elsie Bailey, of Westland, Yeovil.

BARNES, Fredrick Charles: Died on November 23, 1917, while serving as a Private with the 1st/5th Battalion of the Somerset Light Infantry. He went to India with the Territorials in 1914 and was later transferred to the Palestine Front.

BELBEN, Jack: Died on January 16, 1916, aged just 23 while serving as a Corporal with the 1st/5th Battalion of the Hampshire Regiment during active service in Mesopotamia. His body was interred in the Amara War Cemetery in Iraq.

BELL, Edward Bertie: Died on November 21, 1917, aged 30 while serving as a Private with the Dorset Yeomanry (Queen’s Own) in Egypt.

BELL, George: Died on October 23, 1918, while serving as a Private with the 10th Battalion of the Worcester Regiment. He died while as a prisoner of war in Germany. His wife lived at Everton Road, Yeovil.

BENNETT, Edgar George: Died on July 31, 1917, while serving as a Private with the 8th Battalion of the Lincolnshire Regiment.

BIDGOOD, John James: Died on July 6, 1915, while serving as a Corporal with the Somerset Light Infantry on the Front Line. His parents lived in Ilchester Road, Yeovil.

BILLEN, James Herbert: Died on April 24, 1917, aged 30, while serving as an Able Seaman with the Howe Battalion of the Royal Naval Division in France. His wife lived at Percy Road, Yeovil.

BINDON, William John: Died on April 28, 1917, aged just 22, while serving as a Lance Corporal with the 8th Battalion of the Somerset Light Infantry in action in France. His parents lived in Beer Street, Yeovil.

BLAKE, Herbert Charles: Died on December 25, 1916, aged 29, while serving as a Private with the 2nd Battalion of the Coldstream Guards. His parents lived in Smith’s Terrace, Newtown, Yeovil.

BLAKE, Sidney Reginald: Died on September 5, 1918, aged just 19, while serving as a Private with the 20th Battalion of the London Regiment. His parents lived at Woodland Grove, Yeovil.

BLAKE, William George: Died on November 22, 1917, while serving as a Private with the 1st/5th Battalion of the Devonshire Regiment in Palestine. His parents lived in Smith’s Terrace, Newtown, Yeovil.

BLANDFORD, Colin W: Died on August 25, 1916, aged 28, while serving as a Lance Corporal with the 1st Battalion of the Somerset Light Infantry. He had only been in France six weeks before he was killed. He was a trained draper and had a business in Princes Street, Yeovil.

BOWERMAN, Stanley: Died on November 13, 1917, while serving as a Private with the 1st Dorset Yeomanry (Queen’s Own).

BROWN, Richard: Died on April 28, 1917, aged 39, while serving as a Private with the 8th Battalion of the Somerset Light Infantry.

BRUTTON, Robert Hall: Died on January 15, 1916, aged 53, while serving as a Major with the 1st/5th Battalion of the Somerset Light Infantry during active service in India. He lived at The Park, Yeovil, and had been involved with the brewery firm of Messrs Joseph Brutton and Sons in Princes Street, Yeovil.

BURBAGE, Frederick James: Died on May 30, 1916, aged just 23, while serving as a Seaman with HMS Essex which was sunk during the Battle of Jutland. He was the son of James and Elizabath Burbage, of Addlewell Lane, Yeovil.

BURBAGE, Harry Henry: Died on January 9, 1918, while serving as a Private with the 1st/5th Battalion of the Somerset Light Infantry in Egypt. His body was interred in the Cairo War Cemetery.

BURGESS, Albert Ernest: Died on August 16, 1917, while serving as a Sergeant with the 7th Battalion of the Somerset Light Infantry in France. He left a wife and two young children.

BURROWS, Stanley: Died on May 31, 1916, aged just 24, while serving as a Corporal with the Royal Marine Light Infantry on HMS Indefatigable which was sunk during the Battle of Jutland.

BUSSELL, William: Died on July 1, 1916, aged 30, while serving as a Private with the 9th Battalion of the Devonshire Regiment and had been killed in active service. His father lived at Manor Road, Yeovil.
