Taunton School pupils in race car contest

A TEAM of 24 pupils at Taunton School are designing, manufacturing and racing two electronically powered racing cars in the national Greenpower competition run by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers.

Entrants have to solve a series of design problems from speed v endurance to innovation v reliability, not to mention the cooling the electric motor during the endurance heats and the aerodynamics of the car’s shell.

Teams will take part in a number of sprint trials and endurance races at racing circuits around the country - the winners are likely to cover more than 120 miles over the four hour race to progress onto the national finals next month.

Taunton School’s team will race at Castle Coombe and Haynes Motor Museum on September 13 and 19.
