A BRIDGWATER karate club has raised £350 for the town's hospital after completing a sponsored ten-mile walk in July.

Members of the Bridgwater Bushi Karate Club embarked on the walk along the Bridgwater and Taunton Canal to raise money for the club and local charities.

They raised £700 and nine-year-old member Starlena Hancock and instructor Andrew Daly presented hospital matron Helen Mattock with the cheque.

Helen said: “I would like to thank everyone from the karate club who took part in the sponsored walk and who have generously made this donation.

“The money will be used to pay for amputee slings, which help patients who have had a limb amputated to be more comfortable as they move around.”

Andrew said: “We would like to thank everyone who took part in the sponsored walk. We did the walk on a very hot day but we all feel it was worth every step.”

The Bridgwater Bushi Karate Club have trained youngsters for more than 25 years and hold classes to suit all ages and abilities.
