THE Labour Government has been slammed by Yeovil MP David Laws over the dismal figures released regarding the mortgage rescue scheme.
New figures show that just six households in England have received assistance from the scheme at a time when many home owners are vulnerable due to the deep recession. This is in spite of the scheme being in operation for six months.
The £285-million package was established to aid those homeowners who are facing the prospect of repossession, often because of job loss.
And Mr Laws stormed: “That just six families have received help through the mortgage rescue scheme in six months shows that it is completely flawed.
“Unless the process and criteria for the scheme are reviewed, repossessions will increase and impose a huge burden on families across the nation.
“The Government needs to get its act together quickly to ensure that this scheme can help the tens of thousands of families who need it, and not just the handful who are currently benefiting.”
