Bingo players start petition over car park loss

AROUND 140 bingo players have signed a petition opposing plans to lawn over Castle Green car park, in Taunton.

They say it will make it harder for them to get to Mecca Bingo, on nearby Corporation Street.

General manager Monika Borska-Ulatowska said: “Losing the parking facilities will obviously make their visits here far less convenient, which isn’t something either we or our customers would welcome.”

Project Taunton’s Ian Franklin said the plans were mooted six years ago and non-one had previously complained.

He added that there were nearby car parks in Tangier and The Crescent “within a minute’s walk”.

He said: “I understand what they are saying, but we’re providing superb facilities for central Taunton and I’m happy there’s sufficient car parking.”

They could try doing something radical like catching a bus or getting dropped off.

I think it will be a great idea to have a grass area instead of a horrible carpark & it will reduce the traffic around the bus station, where there are always hold ups.

That area of Taunton should be made the most of- one of the few eye catching parts of the town, a green area would enhance its attractiveness. You can park just around the corner and walk to Bingo in 5 mins- I think looking at the bigger picture of Taunton as a town people want to visit and enjoy is more important than the inconvenience of increasing walking time up from 3 mins to 5 mins.

I actually can't beleive people have complained about this, apart from there being two other car parks very nearby from my own experience most bingo goers hog the road out the front of the hall getting dropped off and picked up anyway!
