A WEEK of police clampdowns on drugs and drug-related crime has been hailed a success by Avon and Somerset Constabulary.
Raids were carried out across the force area as part of National Tackling Drugs Week to raise awareness of the work by police and other agencies against drugs.
Drugs with a street value of nearly £160,000 were seized across Avon and Somerset, including £51,000 of heroin, £53,000 of cocaine and £23,000 of cannabis.
The week, which ran from June 8 to 12, also saw 15 cannabis factories uncovered and weapons seized, including a crossbow and a samurai sword.
Assistant Ch Cons Jackie Roberts said: "Everyday we are busy conducting operations to disrupt and destroy the supply of drugs throughout Avon and Somerset.
“National Tackling Drugs Week gives us a chance to highlight just some of this work and the results we are achieving.
She added: “As a result of this week of activity we have disrupted the supply chain by arresting drug dealers and seizing a substantial amount of drugs.”
A total of 69 people were arrested in the raids, with 31 people subsequently charged.
Ch Cons Roberts said: “I am extremely pleased with our results but we continue with our determined efforts to identify and bring to justice the people involved in the supply and abuse of drugs that create harm in our communities.
"I would also like to extend my thanks to the partner agencies who took part in the week and who I know share our determination to remove drugs from our streets."
