THE Gazette has just learned that two men have been arrested in London in connection with the sex attack in Minehead on Sunday.

A police spokesman said they were arrested early today (Friday) and will be brought back to Taunton for questioning by Avon and Somerset detectives.

As reported in the Gazette yesterday, a 22-year-old woman was subjected to a serious sexual assault at about 1.30am while she sat on a wall in the area of the Co-operative supermarket car park.

Shortly before the assault, in a separate incident, a 24-year-old woman was grabbed as she walked along the Esplanade towards the town centre, near Minehead train station.

She was not seriously injured and her attacker ran off.

Meanwhile, additional uniformed patrols that have been introduced into Minehead during evenings and night, both to reassure and to provide extra protection for the public, will be out again tonight (Friday) and over the weekend.

A 21-year-old arrested shortly after the attacks remains on police bail pending further enquiries.

Anyone with any information about the attacks should call Bridgwater CID on 0845-4567000 or Call Crimestoppers free and anonymously on 0800-555111.
