Graphic design students in the spotlight

GRAPHIC Design students at Somerset College in Taunton displayed their collections alongside international students at a prestigious exhibition at Olympia in London this week.

Jonathan Doney, the college’s head of graphic design, said: “D&AD New Blood is an ideal opportunity for our highly talented designers to show the design world what they are capable of.

“This is the ideal place for many of them to find employment or secure work placements following their degree.”

Each year D&AD produce ‘The Book’ which is the D&AD Student Annual, a collection of the best student work of the year.

This year Somerset College student Jamie Saunderson is featured in the book with his design for seed packets for Homebase featuring phrases including ‘Give Peas a Chance’ and ‘Hard to Beat’.

Mr Doney added: ‘The Book is the bible of up and coming graphic design students. Large graphic design agencies, many London or internationally based, are able to cherry pick the latest talent coming into the industry.

‘To have a student listed in The Book shows that we must be doing something right.”
