SHOCKED friends in Burnham have this week paid tribute to Julie Wash, who died while celebrating her 60th birthday in Spain.
Mrs Wash, who was a member of the Burnham Beekeepers and a keen artist, was killed in a car crash with two friends, Heather Brierly, 59, and Ruth Robson, 76, in southern Spain last month.
Friends and family of Mrs Wash, who lived in Bleadon with her late husband Brian, have paid their respects at a funeral in the village, near Lympsham.
Secretary of the Burnham Beekeepers Christiane Hare of Rooksbridge and fellow member Rosemary Hawkins from Edithmead paid tribute to their friend.
Christiane told the Weekly News: “Julie had recently given up active beekeeping and had handed on her equipment to Mike David, a new beekeeper and her hives are now buzzing with bees near Wedmore.
“She was a special friend to us all - she was always so bouncy, full of life and positive. She was in harmony with nature and everything around her.
“She will be very much missed by all who knew her.”
Rosemary added: “A lot of us within the beekeepers were good friends with Julie and we will all miss her - we just can't believe what has happened.
“Her death has been such a shock to everyone and our thoughts our very much with her family.
“She was a lovely person.”
Mrs Wash was also involved in art classes with Burnham artist Judith Champion at her studio in Stoddens Lane.
