MEET Mutley … the first Labradoodle to compete in the world's largest dog show - and he's from Highbridge!

The three-year-old Labrador/Poodle cross finished second in his class at Crufts last week.

Owner Sharon Fishlock from Walrow has been getting her prize pooch ready for his big day for a year and a half with Huntspill-based dog trainer Madge Thompson.

Delighted Sharon said she was nervous before the contest got underway and didn't expect Mutley to do as well as he did.

She told the Weekly News: “I really am thrilled to bits and this is the first time I have ever taken part so it really is amazing.

“I must admit though it was pretty scary being among all the other competitors at such a prestigious event with the grand carpets, camera crews and the audience watching.

“I wasn't really sure how Mutley would react in that sort of situation or whether he would be able to perform but he has done us all proud.”

Unfortunately for Sharon she didn't meet any celebrities while at the event, held at the NEC arena in Birmingham, but she was happy to bring her very own celebrity canine home with her.

She added: “As the first Labradoodle to compete in Crufts Mutley is a trendsetter now so I expect he will get more and more popular!”

Sharon's sister Jackie Bennett added: “We are all absolutely delighted for Sharon and Mutley - they have worked so hard and we are extremely proud of them both.”
