THEATRE-lovers are invited to a weekend of varied entertainment at The Wells Theatre Festival.

Whether it be Opera, Dance or Children's Theatre, there is something for everyone at the festival, which will take place on July 6 until July 9.

There will also be a showing of William Shakespeare's comedy, As You Like It, performed by the Wells Community Theatre.

Cast entirely from residents of Wells and the surrounding area, this year's As You Like It will be staged on the South Lawn of The Bishop’s Palace Gardens.

Ros Johnson, artistic director of The Wells Theatre Festival, said: “We are very excited about this year’s festival.

"Last week we held an event with Gary Andrews (@garyscribbler) - Dr Theatre to discuss the importance of community theatre. It was a fascinating discussion, and we know there is a strong appetite for theatre of all kinds in Wells and the surrounding communities.

"We are thrilled to present such a diverse range of shows."

The Festival is committed to providing some free performances for the public and for local schools alongside an exciting programme of professional theatre and performance at affordable prices.

Here are some of the other acts to keep an eye out for.

  • A Real Fiction by AKA Dance Theatre - a mixture of dance, meme, theatre and pop culture.
  • And Then They Came for Me by Moondog Productions - a drama about Auschwitz survivor and friend to Anne Frank, Eva Schloss.
  • The Grimm Sisters by Scratchworks Theatre Company - storytelling, comedy and live music.
  • I Found My Horn by Johnathan Guy Lewis - an inspirational one-man show about a man who wakes up in midlife to a broken marriage and the dawning fear that he has done nothing to make himself memorable. Packing away his life as he prepares for divorce, he is struck by an insane idea: why not pick up the French horn he never conquered in his youth?
  • Don Giovanni, Mozart’s Machiavellian opera by Opera in a Box.
  • Pirate Taxi by Pirates of the Carabina - an outdoor aerial circus show.
  • The Sand Dragon by Theatrix Arts - a treat for all the family.
