A WOMAN who got into her car and drove after a row with her boyfriend when she had been drinking has been banned from driving for 14 months.

Police were on duty in Street when they saw Hannah Barton driving erratically in Houndwood Drove before suddenly coming to a stop.

When she got out of her vehicle they went to speak to her and could see she was in a distressed state.

They also noticed that one of her car tyres had completely blown out and when they breathalysed her at the roadside she gave a positive result.

Barton, 21, of Old Bridge Close, Glastonbury, appeared before District Judge Angela Brereton, sitting at Yeovil.

She pleaded guilty to driving a vehicle in Street on February 12 after consuming excess alcohol.

Prosecutor Ann Ellery said that officers were on patrol at 11.30pm when the manner of the defendant’s driving drew their attention towards her.

“She made a right hand turn very quickly and then came to a stop, and when she got out of the car appeared to be in a distressed state,” she said.

“She said that everything was fine and the police could see that one of her tyres was completely blown out.”

Barton was breathalysed with a positive result and when she was arrested a further test produced a reading of 55mcg of alcohol in 100ml of breath. The legal limit is 35mcg of alcohol.

The defendant said that she had been having a heated discussion with her boyfriend and she stupidly drove her car after having to go back to his house and get her belongings.

She added that she had since had to pass up two job offers due to the impending driving ban.

Alongside the disqualification she was fined £300 with £85 costs and a £34 victim surcharge.
