A WELLS teenager who rolled her car on to its roof and then fled the scene was found to be nearly double the drink drive limit when the police caught up with her.

Tegan Weston had been drinking when she made the fateful decision to go and see some friends and was then involved in the accident, District Judge Angela Brereton was told.

The 18-year-old, of Balch Road, pleaded guilty to driving a Seat Ibiza on Burcott Road, Wells, on February 12 after consuming excess alcohol when she appeared in court at Yeovil.

Prosecutor Anne Ellery said that on the evening in question a single-vehicle road traffic collision occurred in Burcott Road and the female driver was seen to run away from the scene.

“The defendant was the registered keeper of the car and when the police went to her address she confirmed she had been driving at the time of the accident,” she said.

She co-operated with the police and failed a breath test so was arrested. A second breath test revealed a reading of 65mcg of alcohol in 100ml of breath, the legal limit being 35mcg of alcohol.

Defending herself, Weston told the court that she had been at home when she was experiencing some problems and was driving to see some friends.

She said that on the way she had the accident but was not injured. She added she had been going through a tough time at home and with a relationship and was really sorry for what she had done.

District Judge Brereton banned her from driving for 18 months and fined her £175 with £85 costs and a £34 victim surcharge.
