SOMERSET will avoid two days of thunderstorms as two weather warnings have been lifted.

Weather warnings were in place for Somerset as thunderstorms were expected to hit.

The Met Office has issued a yellow warning for thunderstorms for much of the UK.

Somerset was included in the warning, until the Met Office shifted the warnings to mainly hit the east of the UK and North Ireland throughout Monday and the south east of England on Tuesday.

A Met Office spokesman said: "There is a small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded quickly, with damage to some buildings from floodwater, lightning strikes, hail or strong winds.

"There is a small chance of fast flowing or deep floodwater causing danger to life.

"Where flooding or lightning strikes occur, there is a chance of delays and some cancellations to train and bus services.

"Spray and sudden flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures.

"There is a slight chance that power cuts could occur and other services to some homes and businesses could be lost."

The warning lasts from midnight on Monday morning, lasting for 24 hours.
